Sweet Melody Remains Sweet

a song on air
a story recited
in rhythms of music
a soul healed
from injuries of the past
in counts of minutes
the sweet melody
erases slowly
those bad memories
the pleasant ending
touches the heart
and lives in it

--------

Today I "read" a story in a song and enjoy the good lessons in rhythms of music and beats of tempo which show the itinerary of life from grey to brightness.

A Reflection On My Blogging

It has been about two years I am on blogsphere.  In the beginning, I found it to be quite difficult to start a blog. It was not about the posts but more to the design. I made many mistakes which took so much of my time to put everything accordingly.  The templates have changed many times from a simple one to a more nicer type. I like to see changes from time to time.

So far I have written more than 300 posts but some are not published. It is so much fun blogging though I do face writers' block.  At the initial stage, I only wrote posts on what I went through and the events that took place. Lately, I seem to be attached to Haiku, short poems and short write-ups. I love writing Haiku but I am not qualified to be called a poet. Literature has been my interest since school days. What you can see here are posts consisting of poetry, short write-ups, quotes, music , etc. I do not create blogs for different categories.

Recalling on how it was in the first year of blogging, I am not ashamed to say that my blog was like a ghost town! When it reached one year old, I decided to look for sites where I could join bloggers from across the globe. I came across bloggers.com which I visited many times and decided to become a member. Glad that I did so because I benefit a lot when communicating with world's bloggers and reading their great posts.

The comments for my posts have been a source of inspiration for me to keep writing.  Many thanks from the bottom of my heart to everyone who had left nice comments. Apart from that some of my bloggers' friends gave very pleasant surprises when they awarded me with awesome blog's awards.  It is beyond my expectation. I appreciate so much the recognitions for my blog. My dear friends, you are the ones who see what I do not see at my humble blog. The awards are the driving force for me to reach a much better stage in blogging which I have yet to achieve. I still need to learn more and try to improve my writings.

I must not forget to mention a special thank to all visitors, readers and friends who have been very supportive. Without you guys, this blog would have been in a dormant state. Remember, once, this blog was a ghost town but the visits I get from everyone have transformed it tremendously.  Thank you so much!

In the vast blogsphere,
I find diamonds everywhere,
You are inside there.

Two Different Worlds

As I look through this windows,
I hear the sweet song of birdies,
Just a stone's throw away, singing
in a language common to them,
The song I hear at this windows
is a song over a different waves,
Where singers aren't seen alive unlike
the birdies which are chirping
among flowers, leaves and trees and
sometimes, I can hear then quarrelling,
Though I might close my eyes,
I can feel their presence nearby,
Singing gaily at their own freedom
But at this windows, my hands
control everything.......

*Written at the time when birds just woke up and the sun slowly rising from its hiding place.
A very good start of another beautiful Sunday for me. The birds are still singing.
Wishing readers of this blog a fabulous Sunday!

Omar Akram - Dancing With The Wind

Surfing for some beautiful music I came across this on youtube. The moment I listened to it, I fell in love with it! The music is so beautiful, so romantic.  I looked up for some information about him. He is a pianist and composer, location LA, USA (that's what I got from his facebook page) and this is what he said :

“In a world where communication and understanding between cultures is sometimes difficult, I hope my music can serve as a form of international language that crosses any cultural barriers".

Indeed, it is!

What I can say about his music is it's very beautiful and takes my breath away!
Take a listen! Listening is believing.

The Inspirational Blog Award

Recently, a blogger friend, Sie of the Philippines gave me a very pleasant surprise by awarding me  the "Inspirational Blog Award".  According to her the award is made "basically for sites on my own opinion have Touched Lives". Thank you so much, Sie, for your kind words. It's a surprise that my blog is among the ones you mentioned. If I'm allowed to add another recipient, definitely you're the one who well-deserved it.

I find that Sie's blog "A Life's Journey" is so inspiring with many posts about life.  At one stage, I even thought that she's a counsellor! I love reading her posts which boost so much inspiration and motivation. Check out  A Life's Journey.

The award came along with "Eight Easy Tag Questions" (according to her) but which aren't seem too easy for me! Anyway, it would be great joining in the fun of being tagged.

Here are my sincere answers. Let's look at the questions one by one.

1. What can make you laugh, smile or giggle?
There are many things that can make me do so but among all, I enjoy tremendously my conversation with someone very close to me who can be very hilarious, sometimes, that I just can't help laughing, smiling and giggling!

2.  What are your dreams for your future?
I have many dreams but on top list is to travel the world and speak Spanish correctly if not fluently.

3.  If you were to go to a cruise, where would it be and why?
It would be to New Zealand because it's a very beautiful country.

4.  How would you spend your vacation time and with whom?
Going for a vacation would free my mind from work. Therefore, I would love to have some quiet, quality time with the love of my life; soaking up the sun, watching sunset, admiring the moon, stars gazing and listening to nature's melody - birds singing, crickets chanting and waterfall cascading. It would  be a great moment together when both of us are disconnected from the internet!

5.  If given the chance, what life would you choose? Your new life or your past?
Let me say it this way. I would cherish the sweet moments in my past life and move on with the present. Definitely, the new life is my choice because I feel I'm moving towards better directions.

6.  Is there something you wished before when you were young but you didn't get it?
Let me answer from a different perspective as I'm not going to touch on the material side of it. Well, when I was a little girl I wished so much that I could swim instead of just watching my friends swimming like ducks! I didn't have and still don't have the ability to swim. If you were to take me anywhere for a swim, make sure the float is provided for this big girl!

7.  Have you been in a situation where you might have given up but you chose to move on?
Yes, many times and it was really a test to my patience.  The other side of my mind told me not to be defeated so easily. Instead of dwelling in it, I chose to move on.

8.  Is there someone in your life your source of strength and inspiration?
My late dad is my source of strength and inspiration. He had the qualities of a man who was strong enough to face the odds apart from being so hardworking to ensure his family had enough for daily needs. He was also a very patient man who looked positively at trials of life and worked towards resolving them.

That are the answers to the tags. I hope, Sie, in particular is happy with it. Once again, I would like to say a big THANK YOU to her for kindly choosing me to receive this beautiful and meaningful award.

A Thankful Thursday

How the days fly! It's Thursday! Outside, it's raining, a mild one, the rain taps the roof gently. It's early morning and a cold one which I'm so thankful after days of hot weather. The weather had been quite harsh lately. I felt as if it was biting my skin! That was the time when I wished I was staying at home.

On another note, I wish to extend my thanks to everyone visiting this simple blog. Thank you so much for taking your time to drop by. It really means a lot to me. You guys are simply awesome!

The roses above are for everyone of you. Wishing you guys a fruitful day ahead and do make the best of your time! Remember to carry a smile with you! :)

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart! :)

Friends

Friends are sacred to me. I like having many friends and enjoy the good company. But having friends goes along with a price. The joy of having friends is indescribable but have to face a great pain when seeing them go. That's part of having friends; to meet and to depart. I always wish friends are for keeps though the reality is some friends come and go like passing clouds.

I miss some friends whom I crossed paths once and whom I don't see anymore. To all my dear friends, this is my hope for a true meaning of friendship.

If I'm the bread, my friend is the butter,
when spread on the bread, we can click together.

When I cry, my friend understands why,
She will be by my side to let it go by.

On every gloomy day, my friend is the sunshine,
That shoos the gloominess from this soul of mine.

Many a time , I stumble and fall,
But I'm glad, my friend gives a hand for me to hold.

The misfortunes of life tears the happiness from me,
My friend puts back the torn pieces like what it used to be.

Come what may; rain, shine or harsh weather,
My friend will always be there to give me shelter.

To my dear friends, wherever you are,
You all are my priceless jewel forever.

With a fond thought,

Beauty

There is beauty....
in every petal of the rose,
For its scent is aromatic,
Giving a sense of fulfillment,
Its freshness produces good energy,
Makes one's day more meaningful,
When bathed in the aroma of sweet rose.

In appreciation,

The Intuition

You said you were

in disguise,

All my senses spring

to life,

Not in a frantic search

to see you,

But feeling and knowing

your presence.

What's important,

even if you're

in camouflage,

I can't deny the intuition

that you're somewhere

out there,

And you're watching

closely over me,

Warding off anything

that might harm me,

And giving me

a sense of well-being.

Poem - Contentment And Hope

The air I breath so pure,
Which I'd love to breath
a thousand years more.

The smell of fresh grass,
Calming green everywhere,
How long will it last?

Flowers in exotic bloom,
A beauty indescribable,
My heart's out of gloom.

In The Eyes Of The Beholder

A mind filled up with  much wonders,
The eyes are captives of a beauty yonder,
Deep mesmerisation by golden rays,
Beautiful setting  is from beautiful rise.

Not a moment is lost in the amazing beauty,
Such a wonder, will it be for eternity,
What lies yonder is vivid imagination,
A paradise beyond words of description.

My heart wishes to be in that paradise,
In the land of love and everything nice,
Where there exists genuine tranquility,
In absolute blessing, free and safely.

Astounding are the embers of evening,
Gentle wind a soother to my whole being,
Its whispers are music to my ears,
Delighting the passion runs without fear.

Lost in admiration,

From The Bottom Of My Heart

Mother's Day was on last Sunday which was celebrated worldwide. This is a belated greetings from me to all mothers, Happy Mother's Day! I should have posted this much earlier but I was then so grief-stricken over the loss of my kitten.

The following Haikus are specially dedicated to my beloved mom.

A Gem

A rare gem you are,
Well-cut, unique and priceless,
Treasure in my heart.

Thank you so much, mom,
Your love's higher than Everest,
Immeasurable.

Happy Mother's Day!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a Mother's Day present I received from my Filipino friend, Stephanie.

Thank you so much, Steph.  It's beautiful and symbolizes admiration.

Stephanie mentioned it's an award but I love to say it's a present in conjunction with Mother's Day.

Here are my answers to Steph's question,  why do I become a mommy?

1. I am a complete woman because I am able to give birth.

2. I love children.

3. The title "mommy" is sacred.

My turn to pass on the award to 5 friends.

1.Stephanie - Bitter Sweet Life Of A Single Mom

2. Flora Loveday - The Upperhand

3. Krislin -  Tingtasy

4. Dr.Petit - Scribbled Memories

5. Tropical Mum

Wishing everyone a fabulous time!

Haiku - A Real Blast

Stunning are your words,
Sweeten this life's bitterness,
So speechless, I am!

No one fits your shoes,
Its uniqueness solely yours,
Striking timelessly.

A Surprise From Mexico!

I'm touched, honored and surprised upon getting another blog's award, which is the 7th, from a newly acquainted blogger friend, Flora Loveday of Mexico. Thanks a lot, Flora, it means so much to me for you saw something in my blog which I had not seen. The award is indeed a driving force for me to improve more on my writings and the blog as a whole.

This is what Flora wrote in my blog comment for the post Haiku - I Pause And Reflect.

Flora Loveday said...

Balquis, I love what you write, and the photographs you use... so beautiful, inspiring, and refreshing.

I had to nominate you for the Stylish Blogger Award - http://www.the-upper-hand.com/2011/04/stylish-blogger-award.html because yours stands out, obviously you invest a lot of your heart and soul into it.

Congrats!
Flora
April 4, 2011 6:11 AM

This is among the things that I least expect and it happens! Appreciate the nomination so much and off I went to Flora's blog, The Upper Hand - http://www.the-upper-hand.com/, to check out the award. My blog was among the 15 blogs nominated. So, here it is now.... all the way from Mexico to Malaysia!

And that's not the end of it. As a recipient, I have to observe the terms i.e. sharing 7 random facts about myself and passing on the award to 15 more bloggers who have to do likewise. It's my obligation, so here we go!

1. My favourite colors are shades of blue which are having the soothing and calming effects on my mood. In one way or another, it also lifts my spirits from irritability and anger.

2. I am a chocolate freak! Chocolate bars, chocolate cakes, chocolate drinks....anything with chocolate is my craving. But a big "NO!" to coffee or any form of drinks that contain caffeine before bedtime. The simple reason is, it'll keep me wide awake till the next morning. Counting sheep won't help!

3. I am always fascinated by those who could swim. Guess what? I can't swim! I have to be dependent on floats. LOL. When I was a little girl, I had frightening experiences when I almost drown twice! I was with friends, all giggling girls, who brought me to the deeper part of the river and it happened there and then.

4. I have a great love for poetry and put my heart and soul into it.  I can't write well but I love to try.

5. Laughter is always said as the best medicine. I like to be among those who have good sense of humour.

6. Some of the things I don't like are backstabbers, hypocrites and arrogance. I would stay at bay from such people.

7. Last but not least, I am living on one of the biggest islands in the world, Borneo. Sarawak and Sabah are east Malaysia states on Borneo island which is shared with Brunei and Kalimantan. Let me mention a bit about Sarawak. There are many "big" things here such as the ancient rainforests (said to be even older than the Amazon), ancient caves like Mulu and Niah, mighty rivers - the Rejang and Baram. Apart from that, Sarawak has more than 40 ethnic groups. I am from the Melanau Bintulu ethnic. We have diverse cultures and religions and live harmoniously with each other. Don't be surprised if you find us so convivial because we were born to be!

Now, it's  time for me to pass the award to the following bloggers' friends whose blogs are simply awesome.

  1. Yileen - http://www.deliriousjellybean.blogspot.com/
  2. Krislin Ting - http://www.tingtasy.com/
  3. Dai Ning Li - http://unrivalledsolace.blogspot.com/
  4. Harish - http://scaryhairyman.blogspot.com/
  5. Odliam - http://untony.blogspot.com/
  6. Moonomo - http://moonomo.com/
  7. Simple Sie - http://insidemeanings.blogspot.com/
  8. Beanie - http://beanizersinstincts.blogspot.com/
  9. Liling - http://shadowsoverhead.blogspot.com/
10. Maria - http://www.frissosblog.com/
11. Ravali - http://ravali-aspiringminds.blogspot.com/

13. Dexcerpah - http://www.dexcerpah.com/
14. Suresh Shresta - http://www.in-your-footsteps.blogspot.com/
15. Sevelonn - http://onnthoughts.blogspot.com/

Congratulations to all of you and please, write 7 random facts about yourselves and pass on the award to 15 other bloggers whom you think deserve it.  Have fun!

A Sunshine For Me

I was thrilled to bits on receiving a sunshine award from Wan Maznah of cooking-varieties. My deepest thanks to her for passing on the award to me. Check out her blog at http://www.cooking-varieties.blogspot.com. She has a wonderful foodie blog and there are many recipes which are worth trying.

This is a beautiful award and receiving it means I have to tell about myself! Let me tell briefly who I am though most of you have known a bit about me. I'm just an ordinary person who loves life. I'm also a nature lover and this award is so fitting because a striking daisy is pictured in a blue sky background. Daisies are among the beautiful flowers I love.

Those who visit my blog can see that my posts are a mixture of stories, poems, haiku and any other topics in general. I don't create blogs for different categories because I don't have time to manage them. So, everything is put in one single blog and visiting my blog means reaching a one-stop spot.
I would like to clarify here whatever poems/ haikus I wrote aren't necessarily related to my feelings/moods. Most are written based on what are seen  around me. I love to attempt different categories of poems/haikus that talk about happiness, sadness, or life as a whole.

It is my pleasure to pass on the award to  friends whom I have told personally.

This simple piece is specially dedicated to Wan Maznah.

The sunshine you pass to me,
Gives me the warmth I need,
It brightens up my days,
And shines through my blog.
Let's give others the sunshine,
Let this world be full of it,
A sunshine for you and one for me.

Wan Maznah also awarded me with 4 more awards: Blog Star Award, Kreativ Blogger, Best Blogger and Sisterhood of The World Bloggers Award.

Thank you once again, Wan. Let's keep our blogging world going!
