If They Could Recall

In the pin drop silence of the night, sudden sounds of rain pouring,
at first just in little forms, I wanted to count them one by one
when the sounds became so beautiful -
like tiny drums' rolls the minute little droplets burst one after another upon touching the roof surface,
then they glided down the gutter and gathered as a small lively pool at the end of the road.

I started shivering when the coldness cloaked around,
did the droplets feel what I felt,
did they ever think the moment when the sun would drink them up, leaving no traces at all,
just a remembrance of where and when -
would they be shivering?

  1. I am the one shivering reading this Balqis. Words by words..it's hauntingly beautiful. And I love the double meaning. It could mean lots of thing.

Good night Balqis. Is it raining there? It's raining here. :)

    1. Hi Omo!! So nice to see you again.

Thank you, Omo. I'm humbled by your comment. I always see beauty in everything around me, the rain - for example. It does give me the inspiration to write.

This is just one of my efforts to write free verses. :)

  3. The rain shall pass...
just like the sun, wind and snow...
    and it will come again.
Maybe to bring another joy or sadness. We can always make a choice.
Beautiful poem Balqis! A thought-provoking piece!

  5. I love the way you painted rain and your feelings towards it Balqis. Rain's atmosphere is quite special and peaceful.
Take care dear and thanks for these inspiring lines, make me wish it could rain, even just for an hour or so.

  6. "I started shivering when the coldness cloaked around" Your post reminded me of what is to soon come again in London. It is glorious hot sunshine right now and has been for over a week now without coldness or rain. But as I read, it reminded me that I need to get my winter coat ready, as the rain will look beautiful at first but relentless later.

    1. I don't know how it's like when it rains over your side. Here, we used to have heavy downpour, lightning and thunder. And during the dry season, it would be too hot that going outdoor would be a dreadful thought.

Wishing you a great summer, Rumpunch. Enjoy it while it lasts before winter come.

Thank you for your response to this post. I like it because it enriches my knowledge on the weather in London. :)

  7. Each little droplet falling on our roof, and each little emotion that quivers in our heart are alike.

They bring the bitter-sweet taste of our feelings.

At first they just play a little melody of entering in stage like a small toy piano, and then fall altogether in an avalanche of meaning, stirring our happiness or despondency following the paths engraved in our soul.

This free poem is a beautiful show of the wonders dwelling in the deep foldings of the inner being!

Thank you, BB for this beauty!

    1. I appreciate so much the poetic lines you share here, Od. You're always good! It amazes me how you could relate it to feelings. Indeed what you said are true.

You know, though I like rain, the other side of my heart would feel gloomy because dark days and rain make me think of sad moments. I'm affected by it!

Thank you so much, Od, for your nice words which I really appreciate. It's always nice reading them. :)

  8. I am simply enchanted by this one Balqis, If I close my eyes I can visualise the image and if I think of every single line I can see the human life span (period) that from tiny pin drops they grow up and join other drops later forming a stream, till they find rest in a vessel or pond waiting for the warmth of the sun to finally call their names....

    Wonderful!

    1. Your description is so clear, Hotei. I like your words on how those tiny drops of rain could be related to life; literally on coming into existence, then collapse and disappear. Thank you so much. :)
