East And West

 I
recall
you said
your nose bled
you couldn't stand the cold
for the first time,  your teeth were clattering
you felt the pang of missing home in the warmth of golden rays
your mind flew thousand miles while you were clad in thick clothing even  though
the heater was on day and night
six years was like yesterday, now you've got used to the new environment
surprisingly when you came back home, you complained
stepping out of the plane
you couldn't stand
the warmth
searing
you

I
write
this today
thinking of you
outside it is still drizzling
it looks like snow, cold  kisses my skin
imagination flies far,  if I were there, I'd feel I'm in a fridge
my teeth won't just clatter, they might get frozen, mom would get the fright of her life
seeing the new me
I'm smiling now thinking of the uniqueness of life at two different places
evening here but you're about to enjoy breakfast
wishing you a nice day
my dear sister
I really
miss
you

  1. A beautiful reminder of a loved sister dwelling far away!

This 'little' difference of cold and heat makes the heart wavers between memories and reality, and think how time seasons people in their environment!

    Nice writing, BB!

    1. I miss her so much. Luckily, we could get in touch frequently, thanks to technology. Apart from that, my sister and her hubby come to Malaysia once a year. She sent us some photos during winter.

You're right how time seasons people. My sister joked by saying she felt being put in an oven the minute she stepped foot here!

Actually, this is a short write-up based on what had really happened. I presented this post in the form of Fibonacci with word counts 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,13,8,5,3,2,1,1. The lines with 21 words were highlighted in pink.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Od. Means a lot to me. :)

  2. How nostalgic this is...I somehow see my self...or picture my self...when I left my hot country for the first time and went to the UK ..Felt so cold and all of what you mentioned up here...returning to the heat was almost unbearable...

Nicely penned...I could close my eyes and imagine the whole scenario...

    1. Those who have moved places have the same experiences, I guess. Some might be able to bear the sudden change of temperature, some might not. Gradually, they'll get used to it.

Thanks, Hotei, for your nice compliments and it elates me knowing you could imagine the scenario. :)

The words were arranged in Fibonacci form.
